Westhaven: A Breath of Fresh Air

Parks! Trails! Action!

Is outdoor living your idea of really living? Franklin, TN’s Westhaven is your dream come true, loaded with places to walk, ride bikes or swim and play tennis, and you only have to step out of your home to enjoy them. This neighborhood community was planned with you in mind and offers fitness and social opportunities like none other!
Just outside my back door is the beginning of some of the 300 conservation acres that are part of Westhaven. Shady avenues are a huge draw, an irresistible beckoning to the neighborhood, and the primary way a lot ofresidents here get connected. I can’t go for a walk without meeting someone I know. There are miles of paved trails to run, walk, bike, skate, or even jog with a baby stroller. Add gorgeous professionally landscaped green space and gardens, plus community parks and a stocked 12-acre lake, and it’s a recipe for deliriously happy hearts and feet.
i love the water features, fountains and gorgeous flowers in the community spaces, myself. Can’t get enough of the ever-changing and creative plantings. Beauty has is own language and it speaks straight to my soul! Some of my favorite park spots to hang out are:

Chess Park

and yes, you really can play chess there with giant pieces! It’s whimsical and playful, just perfect for Saturday morning coffee with besties.

Founders Park

the one with the gorgeous fountain on State. Go ahead, toss a coin in and make a wish! I’m pretty sure I’ve had some come true!

The Great Lawn

the gathering place where many concerts and outdoor events happen. It’s a fabulous place to meet and greet, and catch up with happenings in the neighborhood. I love to see the children dance under the stars or enjoying a summer outdoor movie night.

The Fire Pit

a favorite neighborly evening hang-out. Who doesn’t like a toasty fall fire and marshmallows?
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the smaller parks scattered throughout the neighborhood, complete with fabulous playground equipment for the younger set. Westhaven has a warm, small town feel to it with neighbors enjoying their front porches, kids riding bikes and fishing in the little streams and ponds. Oh, for active water lovers, you can also rent canoes and kayaks at Paddle Dog Adventures by the big pond. It’s almost impossible to run out of things to do here! If dry land is your thing, check out the trails in the woods behind Westhaven, or take your dog (this is a very dog-friendly neighborhood!) for a run on a trail or in the fields over by Animalia.
The lighted tennis courts and off-the-charts resort pool and quieter lap pool are just what the doctor ordered for getting a body moving. (In fact, there are two tennis courts, one by the Resident’s Club and one by the Golf Club – oh, yes, there is a professionally designed golf course here, and someone could write a whole book on it – simply amazing!) Did I mention there’s a Pickle Ball Court too? That is one FUN game! And you can take both tennis lessons and pickle ball classes if you’re just getting started and need a little coaching. These are just a few of the reasons I almost never have to leave the neighborhood! Everything is right here! (Not gonna lie to you: sometimes my idea of getting fresh air is jumping in my golf cart and toodling over to Town Center to meet someone for lunch or to pick up something at the grocery store for dinner or check out one of the shops on Front Street. Just sayin’…)
I have friends who love to ride their bicycles around the neighborhood, and also enjoy the short 10 minute ride into Historic Downtown Franklin. Westhaven is so close to all the things I love to do – like peruse the offerings in shops on Main Street or check out some of the amazing restaurants. It’s easy to have lots of favorites – just depends on what I have a hankering for that day! From elegant Gray’s, Red Pony or Cork ‘n Cow, to casual Franklin Mercantile or Merridee’s, I can’t go wrong.
Westhaven has plenty of places and spaces for adults and kids alike. There’s not another place in Franklin, TN like it, or maybe in all of Tennessee. It’s what you’re craving when it comes to fresh air and plenty of outdoor activities – what more could a body want?? (Another great draw is that Westhaven is less than an hour’s drive from loads of State Parks, although we think all of Middle Tennessee is so gorgeous it could earn park status!)
